Erythromycin information from drugs.com

Get emergency medical help in case you have any one of these warning signs of a hypersensitivity to erythromycin: hives; breathlessness; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.


Call a medical expert at the same time if you have all of these serious negative effects:




  • severe dizziness, fainting, fast or pounding heartbeats;




  • nausea, upper stomach pain, itching, loss in appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing on the skin or eyes); or




  • diarrhea which is watery or bloody;




  • hearing problems;




  • vomiting or fussiness after eating and enjoying (in the child taking erythromycin); or




  • severe skin reaction -- fever, a sore throat, swelling within your face or tongue, burning with your eyes, skin pain, then a red or purple skin rash that spreads (specifically in the eye or torso) to cause blistering and peeling.




Less serious erythromycin side effects may include:




  • mild nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or stomach pain;




  • dizziness, headache, feeling tired;




  • vaginal itching or discharge; or




  • mild itching or skin rash.

  • vinblastine (Velban);




  • alprazolam (Xanax) or triazolam (Halcion);




  • a blood thinner such as warfarin (Coumadin, Jantoven);




  • carbamazepine (Carbatrol, Equetro, Tegretol), phenytoin (Dilantin), or valproic acid (Depakene, Stavzor);




  • atorvastatin (Lipitor, Caduet), lovastatin (Mevacor, Altoprev, Advicor), or simvastatin (Zocor, Simcor, Vytorin);




  • heart or high blood pressure medicine like amlodipine (Norvasc, Caduet, Exforge, Lotrel, Tekamlo, Tribenzor, Twynsta, Amturnide), diltiazem (Cartia, Cardizem), or verapamil (Calan, Covera, Isoptin, Verelan);




  • any other antibiotics.




This list is not complete there a variety of other drugs that can interact with erythromycin. Tell your doctor about every one of the prescription and over-the-counter medications you have.
